Eco adhesive tape: why switch to this type of tape

3min read 14/05/2021

Why switch to paper tape? There are several reasons: recyclability, versatility and durability. In this post, we’ll take a closer look at this type of tape. What these tapes are made of or how they can be used.

Eco tape: why you should switch to it

With the growing emphasis on sustainable packaging methods, using degradable paper tape, wet adhesive tapes and other eco tapes to secure packaging is now a simple but highly effective way to help protect the environment.

These environmentally responsible self-adhesive and rubberised paper tapes offer an excellent alternative to polypropylene and PVC tapes and provide the same protection as plastic tapes.

Another reason to switch to paper tape is that they are durable and can be used on all types of cartons and boxes. Because these tapes are made from natural kraft paper and natural adhesive, they can be recycled along with the box.

They can also be written on – available in white or brown and in handy mini packs.

Trust that as e-commerce sees a big expansion and demand for paper tapes increases, your customers will appreciate that you’re packing ‘greener’ too.

Paper tapes that wet glue provide protection against unauthorized package opening. This is because the dried tape cannot be torn off without damaging the box. The tape is therefore ideal especially for e-commerce.

You don’t need a knife to use traditional paper tape, as the tape can be torn off manually. However, we generally recommend an unwrapper for tapes.

Weight matters

Reinforced tape offers the same flexibility as paper tape, but can handle much heavier packages. That’s why it’s important to know how heavy you’re delivering.

Standard 57 g/m2

This type is recommended for packages weighing up to 20 kg.

Reinforced 70 g/m2

This tape can cope with securing parcels up to 30kg.

Reinforced 125 g/m2

Reinforced tape is composed of 125 g/m2 kraft paper as well as fibre. These fibres make the tape very durable and make it ideal for bales up to 75 kg.

What is ecological tape made of?

Eco-friendly tape is made from three basic things: kraft paper, glass fibre and other reinforcements, and a natural rubber-based adhesive.

Depending on the purpose for which the tape will be used, there are two different ways: traditional paper self-adhesive tape and water-activated adhesive tape.

Special rubberised adhesive tape is another option to start gluing more environmentally friendly. This type of adhesive tape is activated by wetting it, which makes it easy to stick the packaging in question. This can be achieved with a machine designed for this type of gluing.

Printing of paper tapes

Printed paper tape

Even paper tapes can be printed with your logo or company motto. This tape will set you apart from your competitors and also keeps your packaging environmentally friendly.
