Palletizing is one of the most widely used handling methods. It significantly streamlines the entire process of storage and transport of all types of goods. Get to know all its advantages and benefits.
Find out what types of pallets and accessories you can use for your business to save human resources, time, space and money.
What is palletisation
Palletizing is a system that allows material to be handled in larger consolidated units/volumes. Its basic unit is the pallet, which can be efficiently handled and transported using various degrees of mechanization.
It is designed to be easily handled – with the goods loaded on it – by forks of a pallet truck, lift truck, stacking device or fully automated robotic unit.
The 8 main advantages of palletizing
- Enables complex mechanisation and automation of loading, transport and storage operations.
- Reduces the laboriousness of handling goods.
- Increases better utilisation of storage and transport space.
- It speeds up and streamlines loading operations (loading, unloading).
- Reduces the demand on human resources, increases the performance and safety of workers.
- Increases production capacity and goods turnaround.
- Reduces packaging material costs.
- Palletizing systems and lines contribute to the development of the industry.
Types of pallets
Pallets can be distinguished according to their design – plain, fence and boxpallets. Furthermore, according to the material from which they are made – into wooden and plastic. The load-bearing capacity of a pallet is based both on its design and, above all, on its dimensions.
RAJA offers various sizes and types of pallets, both classic and plastic palletsas well as extra light INKA moulded pallets (weight from 3 kg), which are made from recycled wood offcuts.
In addition to standard sizes from 400×600 mm to 600×800 mm or 800×1200 mm, we also offer marine pallets 1140×1140 mm for bulky shipments.
Accessories
Additional accessories are an integral part of palletizing, which increase the safe packaging and fixing of goods and minimize the risk of damage during transport. It also eliminates injury to workers or damage to storage areas, handling equipment or vehicles.
- Adhesive tapes and stretch films are proven packaging and fixing materials. These are available manual and machine, clear and in a variety of colours.
- To quickly secure loads, tie-down tapes are used, which are available in many variants: textile, polyester, polypropylene.
For separating items on pallets or stabilizing goods, foam or cardboard spacers of different thicknesses are used. To protect corners and edges, plastic or cardboard edges of various shapes and sizes.
