[CS] The road to sustainability: get to know green certificates from A to Z

2min read 20/02/2024

Everyone has seen them at least once in their lives, but not everyone knows what they mean. Yes, we are talking about green certificates. We come across them every day, most often when shopping. But did you know that organic certificates are also used in packaging?

A sustainable alternative

Nowadays, more and more people are trying to live more sustainably and contribute in some way to a better environment. One of the many solutions is to use products with eco-certificates. What are they actually for? They make it easy to see which products have used less water or which have not polluted nature with chemicals.

Practical tipA: If you want to pack environmentally friendly, recyclable packaging is also a great solution. These have a common goal with eco-certificates – to achieve environmental sustainability.

FSC Certificate

The abbreviation FSC stands for “Forest Stewardship Council”. Products with this certificate indicate that the wood used in their production has been legally harvested and comes from well-managed forests. Such forests are not only environmentally but also economically and socially sustainable. The FSC certificate is divided into three basic types:

  • FSC 100%: This logo is most often found on products that come from pure wood and have never been mixed with other materials.
  • FSC MIX: These products contain a mixture of wood, recycled material or controlled wood that has been harvested from trees that have not been genetically modified.
  • FSC RECYCLED: The product is made from 100% recycled materials and meets the requirements of sustainable management.

OK Compost

One of the most popular and well-known organic certifications is OK Compost. This certifies that the product can be composted. This may be the OK Compost Industrial label, which can be found on products that can be decomposed in industrial composting plants.

There is also an OK Compost Home label. Such an environmental certificate guarantees decomposition even in a garden composter.

Remember: The OK Compost label is most often used on compostable waste bags or envelopes.

Ecolabel

You will find the EU Ecolabel on products that have minimised their environmental impact in all production and disposal processes. Only the best often achieve this label. Ecolabelled products are also known for meeting the highest environmental standards under EU directives.

Fair Trade

The Fair Trade Ecolabel is awarded primarily to domestic products. The aim of these products is to be grown with respect for the environment. Often these are producers who grow tea, cotton or bananas. Simply products that we use every day.

You will also find a wide selection of eco-friendly packaging and office supplies and accessories in our offer. We are happy to be your responsible partner.
