[CS] How to pack larger shipments? The size of the storage boxes is key

2min read 25/04/2024

Do you run an e-shop? Then you know that packing larger shipments can be a headache. However, it’s important to protect against damage during transit, and with a properly packed package using a suitable box, it’s also easier to handle.

For packing larger shipments, you can’t do without this trio:

  • Storage boxes: available in a wide range of sizes and materials, from cardboard to durable plastic. For heavy items, it is advisable to choose boxes with double walls and a bottom.
  • Europallets: should not be missing in any warehouse. Thanks to the standardised construction and dimensions, you can hand over the europallets to the transport company straight away.
  • Adhesive tape: It is essential for securing the boxes. For heavy packages, we recommend using polypropylene (PP) tape – it is extra strong and tear-resistant.

How to choose the box material

A cardboard box is the standard – and you certainly won’t go wrong with it. If you’re looking for an even more durable solution, especially for storing goods, you can reach for plywood containers, wooden pallet frames or plastic boxes and Euro crates.

Match the dimensions of the box to the Euro pallets

When choosing boxes, it is important to consider the dimensions of the product you want to pack. The box should be large enough to fit the product without problems, but at the same time it should not be unnecessarily bulky to avoid wasting space.

RAJA tip: A useful tool is the box finder according to your chosen size.

When packing large quantities of products on a pallet, it is important to match the dimensions of the pallets and boxes. You will therefore find a special category in the e-shop called “palletable folding boxes”. The advantage is that you can stack them side by side on a pallet and not a single piece will overlap.

How to pack a larger shipment or pallet correctly?

  • Line boxes with fragile items with enough lining to protect the products and prevent the package from denting.
  • Wrap the package with packing tape on the flap and at the joints. You can also tape the edges of the package for added strength.
  • If you are shipping a full pallet, make sure the packages do not overhang.
  • Secure the boxes to the pallet with stretch film or tape.
  • Place heavier goods down and in the middle.

Don’t skimp on the quality of the boxes and tape

Packing and transporting larger loads does not have to be complicated. With the right sized boxes made from quality materials, combined with polypropylene tape and care in packing, even the bulkier shipments will arrive safely at their final destination.
