[CS] Celebrating Earth Day with RAJA

3min read 31/03/2023

Dear customers and readers,

Every year on April 22, we commemorate Earth Day. It’s a day to remind us that the planet we live on is unique and we should take better care of it.

Project EKOcalendar

Due to the activities of the RAJA Group and our focus on sustainability and environmental protection, on the occasion of the upcoming Earth Day we joined a new project of the UkliďmeČesko association. This is a unique project EKOcalendar, which aims to introduce the general public to international days and holidays of environmental protection and endangered species. The authors of the EKOcalendar have collected more than 150 such holidays. Some of them are declared by the United Nations, most are global, some are European and others are only local. RAJA has become a patron of the just mentioned Earth Day. We are very happy to be involved and support their activities and awareness.

History of Earth Day

And how did this holiday come about? More than 50 years ago, on April 22, 1970, more than 20 million people gathered in various locations across the United States to demonstrate for a healthier environment. The goal of this campaign was to push for new environmental laws and to push these issues into the political debate. The campaign was well received and led to the creation of Earth Day, which is celebrated worldwide as an international environmental holiday on 22 April each year. Since 1990 it has also been celebrated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

RAJA and the environment

Protecting the environment is one of the fundamental commitments of our society. Packaging and the environment are strategic issues for our Group. We want to optimize the consumption of packaging materials and therefore take a proactive and sustainable approach to reducing negative environmental impacts. We know that packaging is essential for the protection, safe transport and delivery of all products in an undamaged condition. Without proper packaging, products are often broken and damaged, resulting in loss and unnecessary waste. Today’s challenge, however, is not only to pack well, but also to pack more environmentally friendly. So how can we reduce waste and package products more environmentally friendly? We at RAJA bring you 5 packaging principles:

  1. REDUCTION – by choosing the right packaging size, you will reduce both the consumption and the weight.
  2. REUSABILITY – some packaging has been designed to be easily resealable with a self adhesive strip or to withstand continuous use.
  3. REPLACEMENT – replace packaging that is not recyclable or has a significant negative impact on the environment.
  4. RENEW – the use of packaging based on bio-based raw materials contributes positively to reducing the impact on nature.
  5. RECYCLING – we should try to use our resources as much as possible to give packaging a second life.

Foundation RAJA-Danièle Marcovici

In 2006, a foundation was established within the RAJA Group, named after our President and CEO Danièle Marcovici. The Foundation supports projects aimed at improving women’s living conditions and protecting the environment. Since September 2015, there has been a Women and the Environment programme, in which “environmentally responsible” packaging is also a gesture of solidarity. RAJA has selected several eco-friendly products whose purchase will support the above-mentioned projects. For every pack purchased as part of this offer, 25 Kč is donated to the following foundations. The foundations will then use the money raised to support the selected projects.

Let’s also take a look together at how we got involved in cleaning up and cleaning the local park in April. We added to the useful with the enjoyable, and as part of strengthening working relationships, we kicked off the barbecue season and spent an enjoyable afternoon together. ☺️
