A must-have in September: office paper for guaranteed print quality

3min read 02/09/2013

Globally, the amount of paper consumed continues to grow. In the Czech Republic, according to ACCP (Association of the Czech Paper Industry), the total annual consumption is approximately 130 kg per capita. This figure corresponds to approximately 360 g of paper consumption per day. If we consider that a normal A4 sheet of paper weighs 10 grams, then each inhabitant of the Czech Republic consumes 36 sheets of paper per day. The world’s largest paper producers are China, the USA, Japan, Germany, Canada and, traditionally, the Scandinavian countries. Not only wrapping paper or paper in corrugated board, but also graphic and office paper account for a large share of our consumption. With the development of computer technology, copiers and printers, the quality requirements for this type of paper are constantly increasing.

How to choose the right office paper?

When choosing the right paper, attention should be focused on a number of quality indicators, including opacity, whiteness and basis weight. The right choice of paper will affect not only the final print effect, but also the number of failed prints and the associated total volume of paper used.

If you are looking for office paper suitable for double-sided printing, choose according to the opacity or opacity of the paper. The closer to 100% this indicator is, the more efficiently the office paper is able to absorb light rays and the more suitable it is for double-sided printing. Even at opacity values of 80% and above, it is guaranteed that individual prints will not overlap each other.

The degree of whiteness or brightness of the paper is another important characteristic when choosing the right paper for printing. There are a number of ways to measure this. In general, however, the more bluish the paper becomes, the more it is considered valuable, of higher quality and more attractive to customers. The most commonly used indicator of whiteness is the CIE standard, which measures the optical appearance of white papers by illuminating them with a light source similar to daylight. The higher the CIE value, the better the quality of the office paper. Standard recycled paper with an approximate CIE value of 80 is darker and yellower. In contrast, premium quality paper with a high CIE value of 160 is optically lighter, with bluish tints, and is mainly recommended by professionals for heavy duty printing on colour laser printers.

Another important characteristic of the paper is the basis weight or grammage. This factor is expressed in grams per square metre or g/m2. The standard type is considered to be 80 gsm office paper. If you are looking for paper with high print quality at the best prices, use RAJAPAPER office paper. The standard quality paper with a basis weight of 80 g/m² and an opacity of 94% is recommended for duplex printing in copiers, fax machines, colour and laser printers. A whiteness level of 165 CIE guarantees high quality and a whitish appearance of the paper. Not only the standard A4 size is available, but also A3.
