Yesterday, 23rd April, we wereon El Hormiguero for the eighth time! This time our cardboard boxes helped Marta Hazas, Pablo Motos, Chino Darín and Berta Vázquez to prepare a move in the “Things you don’t know and should know” section, these tricks can be useful if the move is small and has simple transfers, but if the move is big we advise our boxes specialized in removals that are specially designed to facilitate the task and get a better organization. Marta Hazas explains that making removals is often a hassle, and that’s why she brings us these tricks, which make the move much more fun
► Create moving boxes with handles
When moving house, it is vitally important that the boxes have handles. These boxes should be easy to handle, but if you don’t have specialised moving boxes like the one in the picture then you can create the handles on a standard box with Marta’s trick
- Create a T-shaped cut with a box cutter, then bend the tabs that have been created inwards to create a triangle-shaped hole. This way you will be able to grip the box more easily and it will be much more manoeuvrable.
► Close the box so that it is easy to open later
moving boxes have to be easy to open but at the same time they have to close well so that they don’t open on the way, you have to think about reverse logistics. How does Marta solve this? Well she tells us a very curious trick, if between the box and the adhesive tape you place a wool thread then it is easier to open, because you only have to pull the thread. The adhesive tape must be of masking tape for this trick to be possible! Maybe it is not the most practical option but by doing this you don’t need to go looking for scissors all the time 😉
► Protect delicate products… With popcorn?!
marta doesn’t want to use packing chips or bubble wrap to protect her moving items, so she decides to use something more everyday like popcorn. Pablo, not quite believing it, decides to put it to the test, so they put a glass vase inside a box full of popcorn and throw it high in the air… And it works! The vase remains intact. But is popcorn the best solution? Well, no :-). As a test, it is curious. Obviously we recommend the use of packing chips, they adapt to the product to protect, are recommended for fragile or delicate products and are also environmentally friendly because they are 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. There are other fillings to take into account
- The bubble wrapis an excellent protector, and there are many different types: standard, 50% recycled, double protection and antistatic. You can also choose the format you want it in (bag, pre-cut, roll…) so it adapts better to the item you want to protect.
- The wrapping paper is also a good solution, as it fixes very effectively and is environmentally friendly.
- The foam protectionprotects scratch-sensitive products excellently, remember that!
► label your boxes!
we would like to give you one more piece of advice: Label your boxes well. In order to have a perfect move, you need to be well organised and labelling is the best solution
- You can use coloured tape to distinguish between one room and another.
- Write the contents of the boxwith a large felt-tip pen (so that it is clearly visible).
- We recommend that you make a boxwith two weeks’ worth of clothes and essentials – that’s the box with the highest priority. The lowest priority can be the box containing seasonal items, such as Christmas decorations. This will reduce the stress of looking for everything you need right away.
