An efficient packing station is a key part of your supply chain, so why not take inspiration from those who have made it their business? Visit the warehouse of Wing,1st mile logistician and Ship From Store specialist.We hadn’t been back to Wing since we interviewed Clément Kuhn at the launch of our #ClientsRAJAcampaign , so he’s opening the doors of the warehouse for you to get their advice.
Flow management is essential
Delimiting the zones is essential, especially when the activity accelerates!
everything has its place, and that starts with a precise location for the stacking bins on the bin tray. When the Wing bags are dropped off by the delivery men who have collected the products from the retailers and e-tailers, they are divided into bins (equipped with QR codes). These bins will be distributed to the packing stations.
Tip: demarcate areas quickly using specific adhesive – especially if you want to test it out before using paint!
Specialised or premium packing stations
We have more and more requests for customised packaging
in the textile and fashion industry, but also in cosmetics and wellness for example, customers want to send personalised packages: thank-you flyers, tissue paper with the brand’s colours and/or logo, etc.Wing has therefore dedicated packaging stations for customers with specific packaging requirements. Inaddition to the personalised elements, the packer can always refer to the book, a step-by-step guide on how to prepare the personalised package. This is an important educational element for any new packer
Comfort at every station
here, the 5S rule is applied! A plastic trayisplaced at each workstation, where the accessories that are used relatively frequently, such as pens, cutters, etc.,are systematically placed. The picker automatically puts them back in the tray. This is a discipline that saves time.To make the picker’s work easier, the control screen has been installed at eye level, as recommended by the INRS. The label printer and the hand showerareright beside it
Go faster
There will soon be a motorised conveyor to automatically transport the prepared packages to the delivery area.
the search for time and energy savings is one of Clément Kuhn’s missions
- Wing started by using instant crates and boxes;
- it has gradually equipped all its stations with dunnage dispensers – much more convenient and quicker than dunnage to be formed and cut by hand;
- and will soon be equipping itself with a motorised conveyor [see our mini-guide on conveyors].
