Packaging not only serves a practical function, protecting the product from damage and loss of freshness, but is also a powerful marketing tool that can determine success or failure in the marketplace. In today’s article, we take a look at how brands are using innovative packaging design approaches to attract customer attention and, in turn, generate increased sales. Some choices can surprise.
Product packaging that stands out in the marketplace
In today’s dynamic marketplace, where competition is increasing, brands need to constantly look for ways to stand out and grab consumers’ attention. How do you personalise orders for delivery? One of the key elements that can help build a brand and gain customer loyalty is innovative packaging. We are not only talking about unique design, but unusual choices that can definitely surprise and thus generate interest.
Magic box for fruit juices
Tomorrow Machine, a Swedish design company, has surprised the world with its innovative approach to packaging. Their latest project is a magic box created especially for juices. What makes this packaging stand out?
Well, it is made from the sea kelp known as agar-agar. This is an extremely unusual material that not only protects the product, but also has the unique property of decomposing itself after the contents have been consumed, eliminating the generation of waste. This approach is revolutionising not only the way we think about packaging, but also the issue of sustainability and care for the environment.
Revolutionary packaging in the instant meal industry
Nongshim, a renowned manufacturer of Korean instant meals, has launched a new packaging innovation. The company has created the first packaging designed for use in the microwave, a groundbreaking step in the ready meal industry.
According to information released by the manufacturer, the new formulation of the packs ensures that they will not melt even at extremely high temperatures, which can reach up to 100 degrees Celsius. This new technology promises to revolutionise the way instant meals are prepared and consumed
An unusual shoebox
Over the years, Nike has been in a constant battle to be a leader in innovative packaging solutions. Their latest development is a packaging for Nike Air Max shoes that has more than one use – it can be worn as a backpack. This unusual box is made entirely from recycled materials, mainly recycled plastic beverage containers. The originators of this eco-friendly solution are experts from the Taiwanese agency Miniwiz.
Packaging made of plastic fished from the ocean
Polish brands can also surprise with unusual packaging choices. One example is the hair care brand Neboa. The shampoo and conditioner packaging is not only distinguished by its subtle, pastel colours, but also by the material used. As the brand itself boasts, its packaging is produced from plastic fished from the ocean. In this way, the company contributes to reducing waste and improving water purity.
Well-known brands are increasingly opting for cardboard boxes!
While unusual packaging is certainly getting noticed, as is personalised packaging, more and more well-known brands are choosing to move away from designer packaging in favour of eco-friendly solutions. The new Ariel laundry capsules are a case in point.
The recently launched packaging of Ariel ECOCLIC® capsules on the Polish market is made of cardboard, which is 70% recycled. Moreover, this material is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which confirms that the raw material used comes from sustainably managed forests. Furthermore, the packaging is recyclable. According to P&G, changing the packaging of Ariel capsules from plastic to cardboard will save 6,500 tonnes of plastic annually in Europe alone.
Gillette and Gillette Venus brands have also ditched plastic in favour of cardboard. The new packaging of these brands’ system razors, i.e. with interchangeable heads, is plastic-free and made of more than 50% FSC-certified recycled fibre.
The inner razor ‘tray’ inside the packaging has been produced from paper, 95% of which is recycled. All packaging is recyclable, which not only reduces the impact on the planet, but also increases consumer convenience, as cardboard packaging is much easier to open than that made of plastic.
Packaging matters
Many brands can surprise with the choice of packaging for their products. Some of them turn out to be truly unusual, mainly because of their functionality and sometimes the complexity of their production. The ecological trend is also increasingly evident. Cardboard and paper packaging are beginning to replace plastic. It is also often being replaced by biodegradable materials.
