Costumes from packaging material

Fasching, Karneval, Fasnet, Fasnacht, Fastelovend… As diverse as the terms per region, as diverse and creative are always the fancy costumes. Our customers show us again and again that packaging materials are not only suitable for packaging products and surprise us with unusual ideas. This time, a customer from Switzerland shows us what you can do with corrugated cardboard at carnival. They even won the first prize at the school carnival! Totally deserved, in our opinion.

The idea came from one of the boys himself – there are currently 7 boys in his class, so 7 dwarfs. All of his classmates didn’t want to take part, so there were only 4 dwarfs left, but they were all the more eager to get to work.

The hats were formed with corrugated cardboard and then additionally pasted with 2 layers of paper and sprayed with red spray paint. The following materials were then used to form the gnome body:

Jackets/shirts, a skin coloured t-shirt, gloves, nose, glasses and beard and stuffing cotton to stuff the sleeves. For the face, the googly eyes were glued onto the T-shirt and the beard, nose and glasses were sewn on.

Of course, the younger brother didn’t want to be inferior to his big brother and even went one better with the giraffe. The giraffe’s neck is made from a cardboard tube. The head is made from a balloon, also covered with paste, and the neck was then reinforced with a few layers of paste. The dress was sewn from giraffe fabric and the whole neck including the head was covered with the rest of the fabric using spray glue.

True works of art that then both won first prize at the local school carnival: once in the category of individual masks and in the category of groups. And the boys also had double the fun – both with the handicrafts and with the carnival itself. 🙂
