Which doormat is the right one for your application?

4min read 30/03/2017
The doormat – one of those little-noticed but highly efficient objects that almost everyone owns. At least everyone treads on it with their feet several times a day. Because most of the time, where you walk from the outside to the inside or vice versa, you walk over a doormat.

Doormats for property maintenance

The transition between the outside and the inside is also called the dirt lock, as this is where most dirt is carried into the building. The doormat reduces the entry of dirt into the building and thus, who would have thought it, also serves the maintenance of a property. Its placement is therefore essential, as every person entering should have to walk over the doormat so that the greatest amount of dirt is wiped off on their shoes and not spread further into the building. We bring about 80 % of indoor pollution into the building in the form of dirt, dust and moisture, mostly from outside. The doormat therefore protects floors by collecting dirt, dust and moisture.

There is a wide range of doormats and the question arises which one is the right one? We have taken a closer look at the floor mats in our range.

Floor mats for indoor use

Doormats that are especially suitable for indoor use are also called clean run mats. The standard doormat, for example, is characterised by the fact that it absorbs moisture and 90 percent of outdoor dust. The vinyl backing of the doormats also ensures good adhesion to all surfaces and prevents the doormat from slipping. For optimal effect, the mat should be placed in such a way that the person entering must take at least 4 steps on the mat before stepping on the floor.

The Contract doormat is suitable for passageways. It is particularly absorbent and very resilient and non-slip. It is recommended for rooms that are heavily frequented, such as entrance areas of medical practices, hotels or public buildings.

The Best doormat is characterised by its herringbone pattern, which creates a brushing effect in several directions and effectively collects dirt. It is therefore suitable for very heavily frequented entrance areas, for example for indoor areas in schools, universities or sports facilities. Another advantage of this mat is that it is made of antistatic polypropylene fibres.

Indoor floor mats can be easily cleaned with a hoover, water or by shaking them out. Categorised in the fire protection class Cfl-s1, the floor mats are also flame retardant.

Floor mats for outdoor use

Outdoor doormats need to be particularly robust and high performing, they are designed for very busy buildings such as universities or schools. The Rubber honeycomb doormat is made exclusively for outdoor use. It removes coarse dirt such as pebbles or small stones, protecting floors from scratches and damage. The high dead weight ensures that it lies firmly on all surfaces, which is a great advantage especially in walk-through areas. The dirt-trapping mat has a very high abrasion resistance and is extremely durable. The natural rubber mat can be easily cleaned with water or a high-pressure cleaner. The rubber mats can be easily joined together using clips, which means that even large areas can be laid out in a non-slip manner as required.

Small honeycomb rubber doormats are suitable for very heavily frequented outdoor areas. Due to the edge strips on all four sides, access to the mat is very easy and even suitcases, wheelchairs or prams can comfortably drive over this mat. The small openings with a diameter of 14 mm comply with the EU standard, so these mats are recommended for the entrance of public buildings such as town halls or offices. The small honeycombs absorb water and dirt and are also resistant to extreme temperatures.

Both mats are made of natural rubber and can be easily cleaned with water or a pressure washer.

The ideal case is a combination of dirt-trapping mat for indoors and doormat for outdoors. Then the building stays nice and clean and safe!
