What does natural packaging have to do with horses? Our customer Natural Horse Care is busy packaging for horses. This is because the company develops supplementary feeds for horses under the highest quality standards. The company specialises in the supplementary feed market, and its core competence lies in the development of nutritional concepts for horses with metabolic disorders, horses affected by stomach ulcers or horses suffering from arthrosis. But the range also includes mineral feed.

The Natural Horse Care team brings a lot of experience from nutritional advice and nutritional therapy and the Natural Horse Care brand has stood for solutions to health and muscular problems in horses since 2004. The products are sold via the company’s own online shop.

Dynamic storage for fast shipping

Since its foundation, Natural Horse Care has grown very quickly and has already had to change its location three times in the last 5 years due to lack of space. However, with intelligent storage systems, the company now wants to stay at its current location for the long term. Natural Horse Care works with dynamic warehousing, also called chaotic warehousing. This means that products or goods that are stored are not assigned to a fixed storage location, but are stored in any location that is not currently occupied. The feed is thus delivered from production and placed in the warehouse where there is space at the moment. From this, the shelves of the main warehouse are then regularly filled. Here, the packers pick up the corresponding goods and arrange the orders accordingly.

Deliberately small storage capacity for fast delivery

The storage capacity is deliberately kept small to ensure fast delivery. Approximately 2,000 parcels are shipped per month. Especially at the beginning of the week, the shipping volume is very high with about 200 packages. The feed is pre-packed by the manufacturer in bags or buckets and packed in cartons for dispatch to the end consumer.

Natural products naturally packaged

Natural Horse Care has been working with RAJA for 3 years. Shipping is done exclusively with cardboard boxes, because the packaging also reflects the brand message of the company, which focuses on natural ingredients in the feeds. Therefore, the filling material for the delivery is also produced in-house with the help of a paper padding machine. Speed and efficiency in particular play an important role, because in-house production with the machine means that exactly the quantity that is needed at the time can be produced. Since heavy products, such as 5-litre buckets of feed, are often shipped, paper padding has proven itself in practice because it protects heavy products in the box better than, for example, FloPak or bubble wrap.

Paper pads and quality boxes for heavy products

Because of this issue, Natural Horse Care also uses 2-wall cardboard boxes. Here, the quality of the cardboard boxes was convincing. “The quality of the cartons is really good. Especially the ones with the kraft paper on the outside. The packers love them, they also say there’s nothing more stable. And that’s why I ordered them, because they really hold up,” says Claudia Fröhlich, responsible for shipping at Natural Horse Care.
