ECO ADHESIVE TAPE: WHY SWITCH TO THIS TYPE OF TAPE

3min read 29/11/2021

Why switch to paper tape? There are several reasons: recyclability, versatility and durability. In this post, we’ll take a much closer look at this type of belt. What are these tapes made of or how to use them properly?

Eco tape: why you should switch to it
With the growing emphasis on sustainable packaging, using degradable paper tape, wet-able adhesive tapes and other eco-tapes to secure packaging is now a simple but extremely effective way to help protect the environment.

These environmentally responsible self-adhesive and rubberised paper tapes offer an excellent alternative to polypropylene and PVC tapes and provide the same protection as plastic tapes.

Another reason to switch to paper tape is that they are durable and can be used on all types of cartons and boxes. Because these tapes are made from natural kraft paper and natural adhesive, they can be recycled along with the box.

They can also be written on – available in white or brown and in a handy mini pack.

Believe it or not, with e-commerce experiencing a major expansion and demand for paper tapes increasing, your customers will appreciate that you’re packing ‘greener’ too.

Paper tapes that are wet adhesive provide protection against unauthorized opening of the package. In fact, the dried tape cannot be torn off without damaging the box. The tape is therefore ideal especially for e-shops.

You don’t need a knife for classic paper tape, as the tape can be torn off manually. However, for tapes in general, we recommend an unwrapper.

The weight matters
Reinforced tape offers the same flexibility as paper tape, but can handle much heavier bales. That’s why it’s important to know how heavy you’re shipping.

Standard 57 g/m2
This type is recommended for parcels weighing up to 20kg.

Reinforced 70 g/m2
This tape can secure bales up to 30 kg.

Reinforced 125 g/m2
Reinforced tape is composed not only of 125 g/m2 kraft paper, but also of fibres. These fibres make the tape very durable and make it ideal for bales weighing up to 75 kg.

What is ecological tape made of?
The ecological tape is made from three basic raw materials: kraft paper, glass fibre and other reinforcements and a natural rubber based adhesive.

Depending on the purpose for which the tape will be used, there are two different methods: conventional paper self-adhesive tape and water-activated adhesive tape.

Special rubberised adhesive tape is another option to start gluing in a more environmentally friendly way. This type of adhesive tape is activated by wetting it and, thanks to this, it also makes it easy to stick the packaging in question. It is also ideal to use a machine designed for this type of gluing.

Printing of paper tapes

Paper tapes can also be printed with your logo or company motto. With this tape, you will differentiate yourself from the competition and, what’s more, your packaging will still remain environmentally friendly.
