Cooling boxes: protecting becomes a breeze

3min read 29/06/2018

Do you sell temperature-sensitive products such as food or medicine? Then on these hot days, even the slightest change in temperature can render your products unusable. Fortunately, with refrigerated boxes and other isothermal packaging, you can get through the summer with peace of mind. Follow these three steps and prepare your most sensitive products for safe and (most importantly) fresh shipping!

Step 1: Choose the right packaging

Safe transport starts with choosing the right packaging: boxes, bags or foil? Their covering made of polystyrene or polyethylene reflects the cold inside the package. This keeps the contents of the package cool. A constant temperature is then easily guaranteed for 48 hours.

1. Isothermal refrigerated boxes

Pack your sensitive products in a refrigerated box to protect them from temperature fluctuations. In RAJA’s range, you will find three models. So you have the optimum protection for every product.

2. Isothermal bags

These types of pouches feature a sturdy, insulating film on the inside and outside. You can choose between bags with a self-adhesive closure or a snap closure with barbs. This allows you to simply reuse this packaging and ensures absolute impenetrability, with no loss of temperature.

3. Isothermal bubble wrap

Isothermal bubble wrap is a versatile product. On the one hand, you can use it to line the inside of a box. On the other hand, you can use it to wrap a product. This insulating bubble wrap is triple-layered. This ensures that your goods reach their destination undamaged. Definitely recommended for exports.

Step 2: Go for extra protection

1. Cooling elements

To keep your parcels extra cool during transport, it is best to add cooling elements in the box. The number of cooling elements needed depends on the distance and thus the duration for which your products need to be kept.

For Isopro® and Isostar® cooling boxes, for example, we recommend placing a cardboard plate or a sheet of bubble wrap between your products and your cooling elements. This will prevent your products from freezing.

2. Temperature indicators

Another handy extra are temperature indicators. With these, you can immediately see whether the safe temperature inside the box was exceeded during transport. You simply stick such an indicator on the outside of your product or on the inside of your box. If it got too hot inside the box, the indicator turns red.

Step 3: Communicate clearly with your customers

Before you give your parcel to the courier service, it’s best to finish your refrigerated boxes with warning labels. Then your customer will know much better which instructions to follow to store or handle your products correctly.

1. Labels with a warning message

For example, use labels that say ‘perishable’ or ‘perishable’. As soon as customers see this striking red label, they know that their delivery must be stored in a cool environment as soon as possible. The permanent adhesive layer of this label also adheres perfectly to any packaging.

2. Labels for temperature indicators

A temperature indicator (see step 2) is best combined with a warning label. If your products have exceeded a certain temperature level, the label contains useful information and instructions on further handling.
