But no matter what the box has been used for, each time it gets a little weaker in its construction, and even the strongest cardboard box of the highest quality has outlived its usefulness at some point. When that time comes, they’re effectively just cardboard rubbish that you have to dispose of. Or should you? Why not kill two birds with one stone and recycle your old cardboard boxes and cartons for parcel padding? That way, you can get rid of your used boxes and save money and storage space on buying and storing protective and filling materials, while doing something good for the environment.

Conversion is as easy as child’s play: The old cardboard boxes are simply pushed in at the macerator mouth, then pulled to the cutting unit and processed into a kind of cardboard ring with an airy mesh structure. In this way, corrugated board is not just shredded, but instead shaped into package padding. The result is a versatile packaging material that can be used for several purposes, including ensuring that fragile products are securely protected during transport – and for free!

High quality and exceptional cutting capacity

One of the maculator’s biggest quality stamps is the cutting unit. HSM has equipped their Profipack models with high quality knife blades that require a minimum of maintenance. Because they are made in one piece and induction hardened, they achieve a high resistance and can easily handle both metal clips and tape. Special bearing plates also ensure a smooth production of the cardboard ring and at the same time prevent twisting, bending and twisting of the cutting unit. In practice, this means that used cardboard boxes and cartons can be converted without prior processing.

At Rajapack, we offer the Profipack400 and Profipack425 models, which can shred up to 100 boxes and cartons per day and produce up to 12 metres of cardboard filling and protection per minute. The former is a table-top model suitable for single corrugated, while the Profipack 425, a larger floor model on wheels, can cut single, double and triple corrugated. Both can be easily integrated into the packaging flow to make the most of your used packaging.

If you need to feed pieces of cardboard into the machine that are wider than the maximum dimensions (Profipack400: 415 mm., Profipack425: 425 mm.), it’s no problem. Pieces of paper larger than the cutting width are simply cut off and the cut-off part can then be fed into the shredder. The length is indicated on the mouth of the shredder, so you can easily see how wide the inserted piece of cardboard is, and thus also determine how wide the produced cardboard ring will be. In this way, you can even produce package protection exactly to the dimensions you need for your specific products.
