Boxes, envelopes, foil packs – what to choose for parcel packaging?
The type of shipping packaging used should correspond to the type of consignment. Different packaging will be suitable for clothes, books, accessories and others for a relatively heavy and large scooter, for example. Choosing the right packaging is crucial, and not only for the sake of optimising shipping costs, but also because of the need to reduce waste.
Packing parcels has never been as easy as it is today. There is a really wide range of shipping packaging available on the packaging market to suit every parcel. The offer of the RAJA shop is wide and every entrepreneur will find shipping cartons, parcel envelopes and parcel foil envelopes tailored to the shipping of specific goods. What to send parcels in?
What to pack a parcel in?
Shipping cartons are most commonly used to pack parcels for shipping. If smaller items are to be transported, including unbreakable items, it is better to choose a shipping envelope, which takes up less space and is more economical. You can also choose foil envelopes for parcel packaging (so-called foil packs) – especially for shipping clothes and material accessories. Of course, there are also parcels that require special packaging – e.g. on a pallet – large sizes or very irregularly shaped items.
Cartons for shipments
Two types of shipping cartons are most commonly used – cut cartons (i.e. postal/cutting cartons) and automatic bottom cartons. Cut cartons are made from a die-cutting machine – they can be of any shape and size. They have interlocking flaps and wings, so there is no need for adhesive tape to close them. They have double walls, so they are robust and damage-resistant. They are reusable. Rajapost’s cut cartons are available in 2 colours – brown and white. You will also find them in a flat version.

Cartons with automatic bottom
Cartons with automatic bottoms save storage space because they are stored folded. They are very quick to assemble – just press on the sides and the box folds up. They are equipped with an adhesive strip, so there is no need to use tape. They are robust – the bottom is reinforced with an extra layer of cardboard. They are used for packing small white and brown goods, pictures and books.

Wrapping and height-adjustable cartons
There are also many types of other shipping cartons – such as those with adjustable heights – so they can be adjusted to fit the item being shipped. So-called book wrappers with self-adhesive closures are very popular in the book trade. On the other hand, long cardboard boxes and square Quattropack tubes are used for shipping long and narrow items. Special wine cartons are best for shipping alcohol.
Increasingly, online shops are using return boxes in which the customer can return the goods – so they do not have to waste time and money to buy new packaging. Such cartons are equipped with a double adhesive strip.
All parcel boxes are made of strong corrugated cardboard of different thicknesses. The most commonly used are those made of 3-ply cardboard, but also stronger ones made of 5-ply and 7-ply cardboard. Boxes made of the strongest cardboard are used for packing heavy parcels.
Envelopes for packaging
For smaller items that do not need to be packed in cardboard, parcel envelopes are ideal. They can be used to send goods safely and cheaply. They are suitable for sending flat items: calendars, books, CDs, brochures, photos, etc. The RAJA range includes Rajamail and Suprawell protective envelopes. They are equipped with a self-adhesive closure.
Plastic envelopes for packing parcels
For sending clothes, online shops often use plastic envelopes for parcels. These protect the parcel from adverse weather conditions. They are also used for sending documents, even cash, as well as any lightweight items. RAJA also offers secure foil packets, courier and deposit envelopes. These packaging are opaque – so you cannot see the contents. They have a self-adhesive closure and are waterproof. You can choose capacious courier envelopes with an expandable bottom.
