“Tailor-made” boxes

2min read 30/03/2011

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “tailor-made”? Shirts, hats, dresses? From now on, it’s also boxes: because you can order them from us as a unique piece of clothing from a tailor – completely individual and precise to the millimetre.

In order for a bespoke box to be created, the customer must first place an order. Here, all the details regarding the future use of the desired boxes are sorted out: stackability, method of transport and closure, resistance to moisture and temperature fluctuations and (crucially) the type of products your boxes will contain!

Based on this information, our development department will create a virtual model and plan all the required dimensions. This step is made easier by FEFCO codes: to simplify communication between customers and manufacturers, theFédération Européennedes Fabricantsde Carton Ondulehas assigned a four-digit number to all common forms of corrugated or plain board packaging material. This prevents misunderstandings about the shape or size of the boxes required.

We will make a sample for you to receive for testing. If the sent sample meets the customer’s wishes, we will order the stamping machines required for production and – if desired – individual printing after final approval.

Production of custom-made boxes

In the production process, the individual layers of corrugated board are combined and glued together, then cut and printed accordingly. Different types of printing are possible: offset printing is particularly suitable for gift boxes or advertising stands. The design is printed on a carrier film and then mounted on a cardboard body. In screen printing, the corresponding image is applied directly to the substrate using a stencil. This method is more suitable for smaller quantities due to the longer production time. Finally, rubber printing is the most widely used method of printing on cardboard products and is often used, for example, to place logos directly on packaging. You can find out how this process works on the website of our Belgian company festapack.

Let us “sew” your packaging! Our experts at Rajapack will be happy to act as your personal tailors.
