Do you know how to properly dispose of drapes?

2min read 01/10/2020

Drapes are back on the scene and whether we want them or not, we have to wear them to all indoor spaces. The drape is one of the factors that should help us with virus protection.

In the spring, due to the shortage of drapes, which were mainly for medical and security personnel, people were sewing drapes at home. If you still want to make some drapes for your stash, this video can help you do that:

How to dispose of the drapes properly?

A used drape should be considered hazardous infectious waste, so it should be wrapped in a microtene bag and thrown in the mixed waste. It is not advisable to throw the drape separately in the bin. Or put it in public bins. 1

Cloth drapes, whether purchased or home-made, are recommended to be washed at high temperatures – the minimum temperature is 60°C. After washing, dry and iron the drape, preferably with a steam iron. Drapes can also be boiled for at least 5 minutes and then dried. However, thanks to boiling, we do not need to iron with a steam iron.

What mouth guard is most effective?

We divide mouth guards as follows:

  • Adrape – surgical or cloth – unlike respirators, protects primarily our surroundings and traps at least the largest droplets.
  • FFP1 respirators – have the ability to filter out 80% of particulate matter
  • FFP2 respirator – captures 94% of particulate matter
  • Respirator FFP3 – capture 99% of particulates and are therefore particularly suitable for healthcare professionals
  • Shield – used to protect the entire face and recommended to be used with a face shield or respirator
FFP2 respirator also available on our website
